What Reconstitution Means
Research peptides are supplied as a lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder because they are far more stable in that form. Before use, the powder must be dissolved into a liquid — a process called reconstitution — by adding bacteriostatic water.
The process is straightforward, but calculating the resulting concentration correctly is essential for accurate, repeatable measurement. Everything below is provided strictly for research and educational purposes.
The Reconstitution Calculation
Concentration is simply the amount of peptide divided by the volume of water added. For example, a 10mg vial reconstituted with 2ml of bacteriostatic water gives a concentration of 5mg/ml (5,000mcg/ml).
The peptide quantity is fixed by the vial, so the only variable you choose is how much water to add.
Choosing How Much Water to Add
There is no single correct volume — the goal is to choose one that produces a convenient, round concentration. Adding 2ml to a 10mg vial yields a clean 5mg/ml, which makes later measurement simple.
Whatever volume you choose, record it, because every subsequent measurement depends on knowing it.
The Correct Technique
Add the water slowly, letting it run down the inside wall of the vial rather than firing it directly onto the powder. Swirl gently to dissolve — never shake, as shaking degrades the peptide.
Most peptides dissolve fully within a minute or two.
Measuring From the Solution
Once dissolved, every measurement is a proportion of the known concentration. From a 5,000mcg/ml solution, drawing 0.2ml provides 1,000mcg.
With insulin syringes marked in units (100 units per 1ml), 0.2ml corresponds to the 20-unit mark, which makes precise small measurements easy.
Storing the Reconstituted Solution
After reconstitution, refrigerate the solution at 2–8°C and use it within a few weeks. Keep the vial upright and away from light, and never freeze and thaw the same solution repeatedly.
